This is something that we get asked a lot! The question that goes on and on . It is a rather interesting question if a vegan eats eggs from home grown chickens would that be okay by all vegan rules? Let us see…
You live in the countryside. You have a place to grow your own plants. However, you come to an idea to have chickens. Now, you make them nice shelter. After a while, they lay eggs. Eggs were not fertilized so technically you can eat them. BUT, you are a vegan, according to your beliefs you wouldn’t eat it. However, you know how they grew, you know that they were fed with organic food. Kept absolutely cruelty-free, almost like pets.
PETA has an interesting opinion on this too.
“As an animal rights group, we cannot condone using animals for any reason, which is why PETA promotes a healthy vegan lifestyle. However, we would not oppose eating eggs from chickens treated as companions if the birds receive excellent care and are not purchased from hatcheries. Make sure you’re ready for the commitment of adopting chickens, as they will continue to be a part of your family long after they stop producing eggs…“
